Bitcoin Mining Moves Towards Cleaner Sources as Coal Usage Decreases

Over the past 13 years, Bitcoin mining has significantly shifted toward cleaner energy sources. According to a report from MiCA Crypto Alliance and Nodiens, coal’s share in Bitcoin mining has reduced dramatically, decreasing from 63% in 2011 to 20% in 2024. This decline averages around 8% annually, mirroring a growing trend of cleaner energy sources.
