U.S. DOJ Seizes $7.74 Million in Cryptocurrency Tied to North Korean Cyber Espionage

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has taken action against over $7.74 million in cryptocurrency, alleging it was linked to a campaign by North Korean IT workers who fraudulently infiltrated U.S. companies. The forfeiture complaint was filed on June 5th and involves the funds originally tied to Sim Hyon Sop, a representative of the North Korean Foreign Trade Bank. The DOJ has now initiated legal proceedings to seize control of these assets. The investigation suggests that North Korean operatives used fraudulent identities to infiltrate U.S. businesses and receive salaries in stablecoins like USDC and USDT, masking their true activities.
