A South Korean woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing over $500,000 worth of digital assets from her boyfriend. The accused woman, in her 40s, reportedly targeted her partner while he was sleeping, gaining access to his accounts and transferring funds to her own personal accounts before fleeing the country. Prosecutors did not disclose the woman’s name during the trial, but authorities reported that she initially stole approximately 683 million won (approximately $488,000). The theft occurred on January 5th in Jeju City, South Korea and was revealed through local news reports. During her trial, the woman also faced charges of embezzlement after being discovered to have stolen an additional 2 million won ($1,430) in cash. The case has sparked concerns about a rising trend of crypto-related crimes in South Korea and beyond.
