Monero Proposes ‘Detective Mining’ to Combat 51% Attacks

Following a recent incident where the Qubic mining pool briefly controlled over 50% of Monero’s hashrate, developers are exploring a new defensive mechanism called ‘detective mining’. This strategy aims to neutralize selfish-mining attacks without requiring protocol changes. The proposed system would operate at the pool level, using existing information from job messages in standard mining operations.
