Xiaomi Eyes European EV Market Entry by 2027

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has announced its plans to enter the European electric vehicle (EV) market, aiming for a launch in 2027. This move follows successful sales figures in Q2 2025 and signifies a strategic shift towards global expansion. Xiaomi’s President, Lu Weibing, highlighted the company’s existing business model as adaptable globally, particularly to Europe. The surge in EV demand is attributed to new applications within DeFi, increased investments from institutions, and strong sales of Xiaomi’s second-generation electric vehicle which launched during summer 2025. To prepare for this expansion, Xiaomi has been conducting research and planning since early 2025. While achieving a record quarterly result in Q2 2025, the company faces challenges meeting domestic demand. Despite facing hurdles such as rising import duties on exports to Europe, Xiaomi remains committed to its long-term goals. President Lu emphasized his company’s focus on profitability in the second half of 2025 and a planned expansion into the European market by 2027, with no specific product plans currently announced. Competition from established players like Tesla and BYD is anticipated, but Xiaomi’s cost-competitive approach, rapid innovation, and technological advancements are expected to position them for success in this new frontier.
