Chinese Embassy Issues Warning Against New Cryptocurrency Scam in Maldives

The Chinese Embassy in the Maldives has issued a warning following a recent announcement by the Maldives Police Service about a new cryptocurrency scam targeting foreigners, specifically Chinese nationals. This scam involves complex fraudulent activities related to fake cryptocurrency transactions.

Scammers utilize unidentified third-party intermediaries who contact local Tether (USDT) sellers on online platforms and claim they need assistance with currency exchange transactions. The scammers provide their own cryptocurrency wallet address instructing sellers to transfer USDT to it. At the same time, these scammers target Chinese citizens holding significant amounts of Maldivian Rufiyaa cash.

Simultaneously, these individuals arrange meetings between themselves and the Tether sellers. The embassy’s alert aims to raise awareness among Chinese citizens in the Maldives to prevent them from becoming victims of this sophisticated scam.
