Thailand Embarks on Tourist Cryptocurrency Exchange Pilot

Thailand is launching a pilot program called TouristDigiPay next Monday, aiming to enable foreign tourists to exchange cryptocurrency for Thai baht. This initiative aims to stimulate the country’s tourism sector and provide an alternative payment method for visitors. The announcement will be made at a press conference featuring Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira. Officials from various government agencies, including the Ministry of Finance, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Anti-Money Laundering Office, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, will be present. This program follows the completion of public consultations by Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission on utilizing digital assets to drive economic and tourism growth.
