Ronin to Transition to Ethereum Layer 2 for Enhanced Security

Ronin, the blockchain network behind popular play-to-earn game Axie Infinity, is making a major shift to enhance its security and scalability. The platform will transition to an Ethereum Layer 2 rollup by early 2026, aiming to improve upon post-2022 hack vulnerabilities. This move has already bolstered trust, with $450 million in Total Value Locked (TVL) signifying a strategic alignment within the Ethereum ecosystem. A major factor driving this transition is the platform’s commitment to increased security and interoperability by leveraging Ethereum’s Layer 2 technology. Ronin’s leadership team, led by Trung Nguyen and Aleksander Leonard Larsen, aims for continued growth in blockchain gaming and network scalability. This transformation also marks a shift towards more secure architectures similar to Polygon and Arbitrum, which have benefited from increased resilience and improved scaling.
