Google Play Imposes Licensing Requirements for Crypto Wallet Providers in Key Regions

Google Play’s new licensing requirements for crypto wallet providers are set to take effect across multiple countries, including the US and EU. The policy, scheduled for implementation on October 29th, mandates developers register with local authorities as either a money services business or money transmitter in the U.S., while those operating within the EU must comply with the registration of as crypto-asset service providers (CASP). For those companies in the US, this will involve registering with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and adhering to anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, which may lead to increased KYC checks. The policy, however, remains consistent for both custodial and non-custodial wallets across both the U.S. and EU. Despite attempts to contact Google for further comment, they did not respond before publication. This development is part of an ongoing story; additional information will be published as it becomes available.
