Ethereum developer Federico Carrone, known as Fede’s Intern on X, has been released after being detained for alleged misuse of the Ethereum network in Turkey. Authorities accuse him of aiding others in illegal activities related to the blockchain, citing a 2022 research paper he co-authored exploring privacy protocols and Tornado Cash. The developer believes his detention is connected to the paper’s insights into Ethereum’s privacy mechanisms. His legal team is preparing for his defense. Carrone was detained for 24 hours before being released thanks to efforts by individuals across various countries, including those from the UAE, UK, US, and Argentina. He credits these connections and supporters with securing his release. The developer insists he had no involvement in any illegal activity and maintains that the research paper aimed only to delve into the inner workings of the protocol.
