Czech Opposition Triggers No-Confidence Vote over Controversial Bitcoin Sale by Convicted Criminal

The Czech Republic’s opposition party, ANO, has initiated a no-confidence vote against the government, alleging mishandling of a controversial $45 million Bitcoin transaction linked to funds obtained by a convicted criminal. 500 bitcoin were sold in May 2023 and are tied to Tomáš Jiříkovský, who was convicted for various crimes including online black market operations, embezzlement, drug trafficking, and arms violations. ANO claims the sale lacked transparency and accountability, prompting a demand for a full investigation into its legality and authorized personnel. The party also alleges that some auction winners are seeking refunds, adding further concern about potential damages and compensation processes.
