DOJ Seizes Over $7 Million in Cryptocurrency Linked to North Korea’s Financial Crimes

U.S. authorities have seized approximately $7.74 million in cryptocurrency, allegedly connected to North Korean government funding of weapons development and sanctions evasion, according to a civil forfeiture complaint filed in Washington D.C. court. The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the seizure as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged activities of Sim Hyon Sop, a representative of North Korea’s Foreign Trade Bank, who was recently indicted for his role in illicit financial schemes.
