ECB Launches 12-Month Digital Euro Pilot Using XRP Ledger and WhiteNetwork

The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched a pilot program to test its upcoming Digital Euro, utilizing the XRP Ledger and WhiteNetwork. This initiative involves over 500 financial institutions across Europe. The pilot will run for 12 months, from June 2025 to May 2026, and utilizes the secure and efficient capabilities of both platforms. XRP Ledger, chosen as the primary platform by Ripple, handles high-speed settlements, while WhiteNetwork’s institutional features ensure compliance with EU regulations. 500+ financial institutions are participating in the program. The pilot will explore real-time gross settlement and cross-border transaction efficiency using a maximum transaction value of €10,000. XRP Ledger’s anticipated transaction rate of over 1,500 per second ensures fast settlement, while WhiteNetwork adds institutional-grade features to complement this technology. The ECB has confirmed that all operations within the pilot comply with EU digital asset regulations. The program is designed to simulate actual use cases in Europe’s existing financial system.
