Russian authorities have intensified efforts to combat illegal cryptocurrency mining, targeting individuals who misuse state resources for personal gain. A high-profile case involves a former executive of a regional power distributor, accused of diverting electricity to mine Bitcoin and facing charges. This resulted in the seizure of over $88,000 worth of BTC by Russian authorities. The Investigative Committee in Amur Oblast recently confiscated approximately 7 million rubles (roughly $44,000 USD) in cryptocurrency from this individual. The former executive reportedly used his technical skills to access and use electricity for his own crypto mining operations, bypassing authorized procedures.
