Cryptocurrency hacking incidents are unfortunately a recurring theme within the industry. Taiwan has seen a particularly high frequency of attacks recently. On-chain detective ZachXBT has shed light on BitoPro, a Taiwanese cryptocurrency exchange, revealing a potential hack that occurred on May 8th, 2025, resulting in the loss of approximately $11.5 million. ZachXBT shared his findings on his Telegram channel, detailing suspicious outflows from the exchange’s hot wallets across different networks, including Tron (TRX), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Polygon. The stolen assets were then allegedly sold on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) before being laundered via Tornado Cash and Thorchain. It is unclear where these funds ended up, but it was likely deposited into Tornado Cash or bridged to Bitcoin via THORChain, before finally landing in a privacy-focused wallet like Wasabi Wallet. Despite the incident occurring over two weeks ago on May 8th, 2025, BitoPro has yet to release an official statement regarding the alleged theft.
