NYPD Detectives Reassigned Amid Kidnapping Inquiry of Italian Tourist

Two New York Police Department (NYPD) detectives have been placed on modified duty following the revelation of their past connections to a Manhattan townhouse implicated in a kidnapping and torture case. The incident involves an Italian tourist who is also a cryptocurrency investor. One detective, while off-duty, allegedly transported the victim from the airport to a SoHo townhouse on May 6th, according to ShibDaily. Another detective, a veteran officer assigned to the Executive Protection Unit for Mayor Eric Adams, reportedly provided security services for one of the suspects and drove the victim to the same location in connection with the kidnapping. The NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is now investigating the duration of their off-duty work with suspects and whether proper departmental approval was obtained. 10 This case has sparked concerns about the department’s policy on officers engaging in private security work, as there is no mandated vetting process for these activities. Notably, officials have stated that the detectives were unaware of any illegal activity at the townhouse.
