Crypto Hacks Declined Significantly in May: $244M Lost, Recovery Efforts Successful

Cryptocurrency hacks saw a substantial decrease in losses during May 2025. Data from blockchain security firm PeckShield reveals that approximately $244.1 million was stolen across the month, representing a significant drop of 39.29% compared to April’s figures. This reduction is attributed to successful coordinated recovery efforts by network participants following various incidents. Notably, Sui (SUI) validators and Cetus Protocol collaborated effectively to freeze over $157 million in stolen funds from a major exploit that impacted the Cetus protocol.
