House Republicans Pass Legislation Impacting Income Distribution

A new legislation package passed by the U.S. House of Representatives has sparked debate regarding its impact on income inequality. The ‘Beautiful Act’ primarily benefits high-income earners through tax cuts targeting business owners, investors, and homeowners in higher tax states. However, this benefit comes at the expense of lower-income families who face cutbacks to social security programs. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects these adjustments will result in a 2% decrease in income for the bottom 10% of households by 2027 and 4% by 2033. In contrast, the top 10% are projected to see their incomes increase by 4% in 2027 and 2% by 2033.
