U.S. Tourist Loses $123,000 in Cryptocurrency to Fake Uber Scam in London

A U.S. tourist from Portland, Oregon, Jacob Irwin-Cline, experienced a devastating loss of $123,000 worth of cryptocurrency after falling victim to a fake Uber scam in London. The incident occurred on May 9th at approximately 1:30 AM, when Mr. Cline mistakenly entered a dark sedan instead of his authorized Uber vehicle during a layover in the city’s Soho district. CCTV footage shows him leaving a nightclub at that time. A fraudulent driver drugged and kidnapped Mr. Irwin-Cline, utilizing his phone to steal Bitcoin and XRP from his digital wallet. The amount stolen from the victim’s digital wallet is reported as $72,000 in XRP, followed by $50,000 in Bitcoin, with smaller amounts of cryptocurrency also taken.
