ECB Eyes Digital Euro Launch by 2028, Driven by EU Legislation

The European Central Bank (ECB) aims to have the necessary political foundation in place for a digital euro project launch by early next year. Executive Board member Piero Cipollone confirmed this timeline, indicating that after securing legal authority through EU legislation, two to three years will be needed for deployment. He emphasized the importance of finalizing EU legislation as a crucial step before proceeding with the digital euro’s launch.
