Amazon Cloud Growth Slows in First Quarter

Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported a 17% increase in revenue for the first quarter, reaching $29.27 billion. This growth rate lagged behind analyst expectations of $29.42 billion as surveyed by StreetAccount. Compared to the fourth quarter’s robust 18.9% expansion, AWS’s growth has cooled. As a key driver of Amazon’s revenue, AWS accounts for approximately 19% of the company’s total income. This growth slowdown comes amidst competition from Microsoft’s Azure cloud business, which surpassed expectations in its first-quarter performance announcement on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Google, as the third largest player in the cloud computing market, also reported a slight miss in market forecasts last week.
