Malaysian police have launched a crackdown against illicit Bitcoin mining activities in the Hulu Terengganu and Marang regions of the country. On April 30th, authorities conducted raids at two locations in Bukit Perpat, Hulu Terengganu, and Wakaf Tapai, Marang, confiscating approximately 45 Bitcoin mining devices, estimated to be worth $52,145. The operation also revealed a connection between the illegal activities and electricity theft, with an estimated monthly loss of $8,342 (RM36,000). The investigation involved cooperation with TNB’s Special Engagement Against Losses (SEAL) unit, and no arrests were made during the operation. Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin, Chief of Police in Terengganu, highlighted the importance of ongoing investigations into illegal activities.
