Malaysian Police Shut Down Illegal Bitcoin Mining Operation

In a recent operation called Op Letrik, Malaysian authorities dismantled an illicit bitcoin mining operation in the Ulu Terengganu and Marang regions. The police seized 45 mining machines and related equipment, with a combined value of approximately RM225,000 (Malaysian Ringgit). This operation was responsible for illegally siphoning electricity and incurred losses estimated at around RM36,000 per month. The case is currently under investigation, with potential penalties for the perpetrators including up to five years in prison and fines of up to RM100,000 (Malaysian Ringgit).
