The Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 would impose significant economic consequences if President Vladimir Putin ignores ongoing negotiations or invades Ukraine again. 60 senators are already co-sponsoring the bill and it’s expected to garner enough support by week’s end to override a potential veto from Trump. This bipartisan effort includes Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who joined without pledging immediate action on a floor vote. Also on board is Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Graham stated this growing list of supporters sends a clear message to the White House and Russia that Congress is ready to act if peace talks fail.
