Digital Currencies Face Struggles in Adoption: From China to Europe

Despite years of development and experimentation, a global push for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) has hit an unexpected snag. Olga Goncharova, former Binance executive now leading consulting firm Rizz Go, highlighted this at the Blockchain Forum 2025 in Moscow. Goncharova argues that no nation has successfully spurred widespread public adoption of a retail CBDC. While the concept promised innovation, she suggests that implementation has largely produced digital replicas of existing fiat currency delivered through apps and online banking systems.
