Kuwait Bans Cryptocurrency Mining Over Infrastructure Strain

Kuwait has declared cryptocurrency mining illegal, citing infrastructure strain as the primary reason behind this decision. The Ministry of Interior announced on April 22 that the ban is based on violations of various national laws including amendments to the Penal Code and the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Law. The move underscores concerns over excessive energy consumption from unauthorized mining operations, leading to power outages across residential, commercial, and industrial areas. This joint warning was issued by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, along with authorities for information technology and industry regulation. The ban is being enforced with a clear warning to entities involved in mining to immediately cease their activities. Failure to comply will result in legal repercussions, including referrals to investigative bodies.
