Americans Lose Over $9 Billion to Crypto Fraud in 2024

The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has released its annual report on cryptocurrency-related scams and fraud for the year, revealing that Americans lost over $9.3 billion in 2024. The report, released on April 23rd, detailed over 140,000 complaints referencing cryptocurrency and resulting in these substantial losses. Individuals aged over 60 were disproportionately impacted, with roughly 33,000 complaints and $2.8 billion in losses attributed to this demographic alone. 2024 marked a record-breaking year for reported losses, with a staggering $16.6 billion lost across various types of scams.
