Vitalik Buterin Proposes RISC-V Overhaul for Ethereum

Ethereum developer Vitalik Buterin has proposed replacing the network’s current execution engine, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), with the open-source RISC-V architecture. This move aims to streamline smart contract execution and enhance scalability by reducing overhead. Buterin estimates that this transition could lead to up to a 100-fold performance improvement, particularly for zero-knowledge rollup verification workloads.
