Manta Network co-founder Kenny Li has detailed a highly sophisticated phishing attack using real faces on video calls to attempt downloading malware. Li was targeted on Zoom by an attacker posing as someone from his company who requested he update his software and download a script file. Despite appearing legitimate with live camera feed and realistic interaction, the lack of sound and suspicious prompt raised red flags for Li, leading him to disconnect and verify the impersonator’s identity through a separate Telegram call before the conversation ended abruptly. Li believes the Lazarus Group is behind this attack. Other members of the crypto community have shared similar experiences with these attacks, where they were asked to download Zoom via links claiming it was necessary for business purposes.
