A recent research discovery reveals a serious vulnerability in Mediatek smartphone chips, highlighting potential privacy risks for users storing private keys on their devices. According to ChainCatcher’s Donjon research team, an electromagnetic fault injection (EMFI) attack can completely compromise the popular Mediatek Dimensity 7300 chip found in numerous Android phone models. This vulnerability allows attackers physical access to the device to gain control of the chip and execute arbitrary code at a high privilege level. While Ledger’s research team demonstrated this vulnerability on the MT6878 chip produced by TSMC, they confirmed that it has no impact on their hardware wallets.
