Temu and Shein Face Scrutiny as South Africa Investigates E-Commerce Compliance

The South African National Consumer Commission (NCC) has initiated a formal probe into e-commerce giants Temu and Shein, alleging non-compliance with the Consumer Protection Act. The investigation will assess their marketing strategies, product safety, and digital market operations. NCC Executive Head Prudence Moilwa stated that the commission is focusing on the e-commerce industry as it has become a priority area, notifying both companies of the investigation and their obligation to comply. Moilwa emphasized the commission’s intention to rigorously evaluate their compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.
