Amina Bank, in collaboration with Crypto Finance Group and other Swiss banks, has successfully completed a pilot using distributed ledger technology (DLT) on Google Cloud Universal Ledger. This project allows for near real-time, 24/7 settlement of fiat currencies between Swiss financial institutions. Notably, this initiative did not introduce any new digital currencies but relied upon existing commercial bank funds. This success showcases DLT’s potential to seamlessly integrate with traditional banking systems within current regulatory and compliance frameworks. The project’s outcome paves the way for future advancements in cross-border payments, multi-currency settlements, and point-of-sale (POS) integrated payments, suggesting a shift towards Web3 and blockchain infrastructure within the conventional financial system.
