Interest in Bitcoin among Swedish politicians is growing, spurred by calls from parliament member Rickard Nordin for the government to reassess its Bitcoin reserve strategy. This week, another Swedish Democrat, Dennis Dioukarev, took up the issue, formally questioning Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson about the potential establishment of a national Bitcoin reserve through seized assets. Dioukarev cited examples of other countries like the United States that have adopted this approach and specifically highlighted the U.S. government’s use of seized funds to create a Bitcoin reserve. Dioukarev inquired if the Ministry of Finance has considered such a strategy as an alternative for Sweden.
