BIS Appoints Digital Currency Expert to Head Innovation Hub

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Tommaso Mancini-Griffoli, a leading global authority on digital currencies, as head of its Innovation Hub starting March 2026. His tenure will focus on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), tokenized assets, and next-generation financial infrastructure. This appointment signals the BIS’s commitment to exploring regulated digital currency models rather than unregulated stablecoins. Mancini-Griffoli brings extensive experience from his role as assistant director in the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department, where he has worked on payments, digital currencies, and financial stability.
