Nigerian Copyright Commission Shut Down Several Online Music Platforms for Piracy

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has taken action against several online music platforms accused of copyright infringement, shutting down domains associated with .NG websites including val9ja, tunesloaded.com.ng and music.360media.com.ng. The NCC alleges these platforms distributed copyrighted sound recordings and other original works without permission. The move follows a formal complaint filed by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) that raised concerns over copyright violations within the music industry, according to the NCC Director-General, John Asein. 24 sites have been impacted in total. The NCC collaborated with NiRA, Nigeria’s internet registration association, to carry out the action.
