Kenya Orders Uber & Bolt to Increase Fares by 50%, Aiming for Fair Compensation for Drivers

Following widespread protests, Kenyan authorities have mandated ride-hailing companies Uber and Bolt to implement a 50% fare increase. This order comes from Kenya’s Ministry of Roads and Transport, in line with recommendations from the Automobile Association of Kenya (AAK). The AAK guidelines dictate increases in per-kilometer rates for both small (1050cc) and medium (between 1051cc and 1300cc) engine sizes. While this isn’t a new policy, its implementation has been delayed due to the lack of unified regulatory frameworks between companies.
