Senate to Question CFTC Nominee on Cryptocurrency Regulation

U.S. senators are set to question Michael Selig, nominated by President Donald Trump for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair position, about his proposed reforms regarding cryptocurrency regulation and election prediction markets this Wednesday. Selig currently serves as the chief legal advisor for the SEC’s cryptocurrency task force and advises Paul Atkins, the Republican SEC chairman appointed by Trump. If Congress passes the CLARITY Act, the CFTC, responsible for regulating commodity derivatives, will assume a more active role in the cryptocurrency industry. This upcoming question-and-answer session regarding the CLARITY Act and the CFTC’s collaborative plans with the SEC, as well as regulatory actions related to markets allowing American citizens to bet on election outcomes and other events, will provide insight into Selig’s vision.
