Africa is poised to revolutionize its trade system with the launch of ADAPT, a pan-African digital initiative that aims to transform how goods and services are exchanged across the continent. This bold project, led by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat in partnership with IOTA Foundation and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, seeks to unlock the immense potential of Africa’s free trade area. ADAPT will connect 54 nations via a single digital infrastructure using blockchain technology to enable secure, efficient, and inclusive transactions. This transformative initiative connects businesses, governments, and citizens by providing trusted identities, streamlined data exchange, and interoperable finance systems. By leveraging the power of distributed ledger technology like IOTA’s public blockchain network, ADAPT will create a unified platform for trade that is faster, cheaper, and more transparent than traditional methods, allowing African countries to trade seamlessly across borders.
