Bybit’s Lazarus Lab Uncovers Hidden Fund-Freezing Mechanisms on 16 Blockchain Networks

A new report from Bybit’s Lazarus Security Lab reveals that numerous blockchain networks incorporate hidden features allowing the freezing of funds. This discovery raises concerns about decentralization, censorship resistance, and user control. 16 blockchains were found to have built-in fund-freezing capabilities, while another 19 could implement similar functions with relatively simple protocol changes. 3 main types of freezing systems were identified: hardcoded logic, configuration file controls, and on-chain contract execution.
