Italian Banks Favor Digital Euro, Seek Investment Spreading

Italy’s banking industry is enthusiastically supporting the European Central Bank’s (ECB) digital euro initiative. However, they are urging for a phased approach to investments due to the significant financial implications. The Italian Banking Association (ABI) official emphasized this stance according to PANews. While the ECB has been actively developing the digital euro version of the single currency to bolster monetary sovereignty within the Eurozone, the legislative process has encountered delays, particularly due to concerns from some French and German banks. These institutions express apprehension about millions of Europeans potentially using the ECB’s online wallet for daily transactions, which they fear could lead to a decline in bank deposits.
