EU Ponders SEC-Style Regulator to Oversee Stock and Crypto Exchanges

The European Commission is exploring a regulatory model similar to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), with the aim of establishing a single supervisory authority for stock and crypto exchanges across the bloc. According to reports, a draft proposal expected in December would expand the powers of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) to oversee stock and crypto exchange platforms, as well as other trading infrastructure, including asset managers. This move aims to address market fragmentation and create a unified capital market within Europe.
