EU Enhances Financial Market Oversight with Expansion of ESMA Powers

The European Commission is taking steps to strengthen regulatory oversight of key financial market infrastructures, including stock exchanges and crypto-asset service providers. These plans aim to enhance the powers of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) to encompass the most influential cross-border entities. This initiative supports the EU’s ‘Capital Markets Union’ project which seeks to eliminate regulatory discrepancies across member states and boost the EU’s competitiveness.
