China Raises Tariffs on U.S. Imports in Response to Trade Actions

In retaliation for the US’s escalation of tariffs on Chinese goods, China has announced a significant increase in import tariffs. The move, effective April 12, 2025, will see tariffs jump from 84% to 125% on certain U.S. products. This is expected to have a substantial impact on American exports to China. China’s Commerce Ministry stated that the new tariffs make US exports economically unfeasible and many products will face exclusion from the Chinese market.
