Ethereum’s Fusaka Upgrade: New Gas Limit Cap Improves Scalability

Ethereum’s upcoming Fusaka hard fork will introduce a per-transaction gas limit cap of 16.78 million gas using EIP-7825. This change, already active on testnets like Holesky and Sepolia, will be implemented on the mainnet once Fusaka is activated. The new cap helps to mitigate Denial-of-Service attacks and enables parallel execution in future Ethereum upgrades like EIP-7928 (Glamsterdam). Previously, large transactions could consume an entire block’s 45 million gas, limiting efficiency and multi-threaded execution potential.
