New York Assemblyman Pushes for Blockchain in Elections

New York State Assemblyman Clyde Vanel has proposed a bill that would explore using blockchain technology to enhance election security and transparency within the U.S. electoral process. Bill AA7716 requests the State Board of Elections to assess how blockchain can improve voting system operations and address voter data protection. If passed, New York’s Board of Elections will conduct a formal study exploring the use of blockchain technology for enhanced voter record security and election result transparency. The report must be presented within one year after the bill’s enactment. 2017, Vanel also introduced a similar bill, but it did not pass.
