Uganda Launches CBDC for a World’s Most Advanced Tokenized Economy

Uganda has officially launched its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), marking the country’s entry into the global digital currency arena. This initiative positions the East African nation as a leader in transitioning to a tokenized economy, aiming to reshape the nation’s financial sector. The CBDC is being piloted with support from Global Settlement Network (GSN) and Diacente Group, developers of Uganda’s Karamoja Green Industrial and Special Economic Zone (GISEZ). Together, they aim to create a pioneering system that underpins $5.5 billion in real-world infrastructure, enabling a more inclusive and efficient economic system for the nation.
