Polygon’s Rio Upgrade Enables 5,000 TPS Payments Network

Polygon has launched the Rio upgrade on its mainnet, marking a significant advancement for its payments infrastructure. The upgrade introduces a new Validator-Elected Block Producer (VEBP) model, allowing the blockchain to process up to 5,000 transactions per second (TPS), ensuring near-instant finality and eliminating reorgs. This is achieved by redesigning block production and introducing stateless validation, while reducing the cost of running nodes.
