Vitalik Buterin Calls for Anonymous Voting in Governance

Crypto pioneer Vitalik Buterin has suggested that anonymous voting methods could enhance governance transparency and protect decision-makers from threats, particularly following a recent arson incident involving a judge’s home. In his latest comments reported by PANews, Buterin argued that secret votes, similar to his past advocacy for their use within the UN General Assembly, can shield individuals from pressure from external forces and potential acts of violence. He emphasized that judges should focus on independent legal reasoning rather than facing threats from public unrest. While acknowledging the perceived novelty of this idea in a social context, Buterin believes these concepts may increasingly gain traction due to the heightened accessibility of physical retaliation in the 2020s, particularly when considering foreign adversaries can now easily exploit such capabilities.
