The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has seized cryptocurrencies connected to a fraudulent bank impersonation scheme in Florida that resulted in losses of $122,000. The action follows a request from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) under an MLAT between India and the United States. 0.26 Bitcoin, 7.83 Ether, and ₹8.7 lakh were traced to an account held by Punam Jaiswal in India. This was after the investigation determined that these funds were transferred from victims’ accounts taken over via bank impersonation scams. India now joins forces with international counterparts as authorities continue to combat financial crime using MLAT for cross-border transactions.
