Private Keys Remain Top Target: SlowMist Analyzes Q3 2025 Crypto Theft Trends

Slowmist’s MistTrack analysis reveals private key leaks as the primary cause of cryptocurrency theft in the third quarter of 2025. The report details that 317 stolen funds reports were filed between July and September, with $3.73 million worth of assets successfully recovered or frozen in ten cases. While sophisticated attacks are less common, compromised credentials remain a significant vulnerability. Unauthorized dealers continue to sell fake hardware wallets, often pre-filled with seed phrases or tampered with to capture recovery information. This allows attackers to access funds once victims deposit them.
